When you are in the market for a Miele canister vacuum cleaner you have to decide which floor tool will effectively clean your house. Whether you have a house filled with only carpeting, bare floors or a mix between the two; Miele has a floor tool that is proper for your household. However all of these floor tools work differently and it is important that you purchase the proper floor tool with your machine so you can effectively clean your home. The following text will explain the difference between the different floor tools.

What is a Miele Powerhead? A powerhead is an attachment that uses an electrically driven motor to turn a brushroll to help agitate dust and dirt out of your carpeting. The motor spins at thousands of rotations per minute and a belt that drives the brushroll causes the brushroll to spin at the same speed. Miele Powerheads have a gear-driven belt system with electronic overload, which means if you were to get a sheet stuck within the brushroll the motor would stop turning. This prevents the motor from burning out or breaking a belt (A problem that is commonly seen on other brands of vacuum cleaners). All you have to do is reset the powerhead and that will start it up again.

Is a Miele Powerhead right for my household or should I get something different? Miele makes 2 different styles of Powerheads. One is called the Miele SEB-236 Powerhead and the other is called the Miele SEB-217 Powerhead. The Miele SEB-236 Powerhead is an extremely heavy-duty powerhead, which is great for somebody with high-pile carpeting, or somebody that has a lot of pet hair on his or her carpeting. It is also great for a house with high traffic carpeted areas. The SEB-236 Powerhead can be turned off to go right on the bare floors and has all rubber wheels so it does not scratch your floors. The Miele SEB-217 Powerhead is great for a person with medium to low pile carpeting and moderate to little amounts of pet hair on the carpeting. The Miele SEB-217 can also be turned off to go right on the brare floors and has all rubber wheels. The Miele Capricorn, Miele Venus, Miele Gemini and Miele Aquarius can be packaged with either the Miele SEB-217 or SEB-236 Powerhead. The Miele Callisto, Miele S514 Mango Red and Miele Plus come packaged with the SEB-217 Powerhead.

Another piece Miele makes is called a Turbohead. A Turbohead is a unique piece that uses the air speed of the machine to rotate the brushroll at a high velocity. The velocity of the brushroll allows the Turbohead to pick up a large amount of dirt off of carpeting.

A Turbohead may spin the brushroll at a high velocity like a powerhead, but that does not mean it cleans as well. The Turbohead does not require electricity and has no motor so does not perform as well as a powerhead on medium or high pile carpeting. This piece is good, however, for low-cut rugs and carpeting with minimal pet hair.

Miele has another attachment, known as the Rug and Floor Head, which has a switch to make it ideal for either carpeting or hard surfaces, such as wood or tile. This attachment, like the Turbohead, does not use electricity and does not have a turning brush.

If your house is comprised of area rugs and mainly hard surfaces, such as wood, the Rug and Floor is right for you. The Rug and Floor Tool is not good for somebody with wall-to-wall carpeting or a lot of pet hair, because the Rug and Floor Tool lacks spinning brushes agitate the carpeting.

What is Miele Parquet Floor Brush? A Miele Parquet Floor Brush, such as the Miele SBB 300-3 Floor Brush, is an attachment that works solely off of suction and has only bristles on the bottom. There is no brushroll and the Floor Brush cannot be used on carpeting or rugs; however a Floor Brush does do a wonderful job at cleaning your bare floors.

If your home consists of only bare floors then this is the piece for your. This piece is used exclusively on the bare floors and does a wonderful job picking up dirt and debris on your floors. The way the piece swivels will leave you in amazement every time you use it.

Whether you have only hard floors, only rugs or a mix between the two, there is an attachment for you. Miele makes one of the finest vacuums as well as attachments and when you purchase a Miele you will have a machine that will last you for years and years.
